Diesel Making a Comeback

Check out this article from WiRED News. Apparently, that ole $2+/gal. gas price is starting to make a few Americans think again about the VW TDI engine. I switched in March of 2003, expecting Shrub's war to hammer the price of gas ... it took a year, but it finally happened.

Go here for more info on TDI cars.

Motorweek this week featured the new Mercedes luxo-car that gets circa 27/37 MPG on diesel - and has a ~6.8s 0-60 time and sub-15-sec 1/4-mile, if I rememver correctly. Computer-controlled direct injection, turbo, etc. high-$40K's I think. Apparently Mercedes is going to push diesel in the US, and this model will be available in all 50 states once low-sulphur diesel is available next year (currently it's accepted for 45 states).
